A GROUP of teenagers were beaten up in a Barnet park last week in a suspected retaliation attack.
Police believe the incident, which involved 12 people, may be linked to an on-going dispute between families in the area.
A gang of four men, thought to be aged between 19 and 21, approached the group of three teenage girls and five boys at about 7.15pm in Duck Island park, in Chesterfield Road last Thursday.
Five of the group, all aged between 16 and 19, were left with cuts and bruises. The four men also robbed them of two mobile phones and an iPod.
They are thought to have been driving a red Mini Cooper and police said the attack may be connected with an earlier incident at a nearby address in Mays Lane.
Detective Sergeant Mark Tyrrell, of Barnet police, said: “There was an incident in the park and it seems to be a situation that has escalated out of all proportions.
“We believe it was related to an earlier saga to some fashion, but the thefts were just opportunistic as they carried out the assault and then just took the items.”
DS Tyrrell appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the attack to contact Barnet police on 0300 123 1212 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
