Wages could prevent Emmanuel Adebayor completing a permanent move from Manchester City to Tottenham Hotspur

Emmanuel Adebayor has suggested he is not willing to take a pay cut in order to secure a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Togo international, who reportedly earns £160,000 a week at parent club Manchester City, scored twice for Spurs on Monday night in their 2-0 win against Aston Villa.

But signing the striker from City on a permanent deal may prove difficult after Adebayor commented: “We all play football to get money.

"I'm from Africa and I have to give something back to my community. You all know that I've been doing a lot of charity stuff without knocking at any door. I'm taking my own wages to do it and I will keep doing it until the end of my career.”
