Tottenham will turn their attention to German international Lukas Podolski as they can’t afford to sign Emmanuel Adebayor on a permanent basis.
The Togolese striker joined Spurs on loan from Manchester City in the summer and has made an instant impact at White Hart Lane.
But his reported £140,000-a-week salary and the £17 million bid required to secure his services have seen Spurs turn their attention to Podolski.
The Köln striker has been tracked by North London rivals Arsenal and Italian side Lazio but Tottenham believe they can lure him to the club.
