LEYTONSTONE: Attempted abduction of schoolgirl
4:10pm Thursday 21st June 2012 in Where I Live By Daniel Binns
A GROUP of men tried to abduct a schoolgirl in broad daylight.
The 16-year-old was targeted in Wallwood Road, at the junction with Kings Road, in Leytonstone on Tuesday (June 19) at 3.40pm.
Police, who released the information this afternoon, have issued a warning to children, teenagers and parents to be vigilant.
Officers say the girl noticed a rusty black people carrier parked at the side of the road with four men aged between 18 and 19 on the pavement nearby.
As she walked past one of the youths grabbed her by the arm.
A second man held her leg and punched her towards the vehicle.
But she managed to kick free and ran off home.
She told her mother what happened and police were called.
The girl was not injured.
Three of the men are described as black, with the fourth man said to be of Asian appearance.
No arrests have been made.
A Met spokesman said: "We would ask children, parents and carers to continue to be vigilant, as they normally would, and report any suspicious activity immediately to police by contacting 999.
"Anyone with information about the incident, or who saw anyone acting suspiciously around the vicinity, should contact Detective Sergeant Brian Jones at Waltham Forest police on 020 3276 0967."
To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
