Fullwell councillor Harold Moth expelled from Redbridge Conservative group
A VETERAN councillor has been thrown out of the borough's Conservative group.
Harold Moth, who represents the Fullwell ward, has been a Redbridge councillor for 34 years.
Council leader Keith Prince said: "The decision was reluctantly taken following an incident in group for which Cllr Moth has refused to apologise."
Cllr Prince added that Cllr Moth had made 'inappropriate comments' about some of his colleagues.
He would not reveal any further details about the incident other than to say it took place 'a couple of weeks ago'.
Cllr Moth says he has been expelled after an argument about plans for a temporary Olympic car park in Starch House Lane, Barkingside, which were ditched earlier this month after residents mounted a petition opposing the plans.
He explained: "I pointed out that negotiations between Fairlop councillors and Cllr Weinberg about how money from this scheme would be allocated should not have taken place before residents had been consulted on it.
"I have done nothing wrong and this is an injustice.
"I shall continue as a councillor in an independent capacity at this stage."
Cllr Moth resigned from the group in 2010, standing as an independent candidate before rejoining the Conservatives.
