"Ken could lose" admits council leader
"It doesn't look good", says the leader of Haringey Labour Group.
Speaking exclusively to the Haringey Independent, council leader George Meehan suggested that Ken Livingstone may not be serving a third term in office.
With nearly 60 per cent of Enfield and Haringey votes counted, Mr Livingstone is catching up with Boris Johnson but it may be too little, too late.
Mr Meehan said: "Sometimes you've got to be realistic.
"The Labour result nationally has not been good and I don't think London is going to buck that trend. It does not look good.
"But it was always going to be a tough contest. Who knows? Maybe we'll have a pleasant surprise when the final votes are counted."
The incumbent mayor is winning in the North East London (Walthan Forest, Hackney and Islington) and Brent and Harrow constituencies.
But votes show that Boris Johnson is comfortably ahead in Barnet and Camden.
Latest reports show that Mr Johnson is leading in nine out of 14 London constituencies.
Mr Meehan suggested that a loss of faith in the Labour party could be to blame while Conservative voters, wanting change, have expressed this sentiment in the polling booths.
