Tories lead in Enfield and Haringey — so far

The Tories are leading according to the votes counted so far at Alexandra Palace

The Conservatives are in the lead in the Enfield and Haringey constituency.

Screens at the count, at Alexandra Palace, are showing bar charts of the running totals of the votes.

At 12.30pm, with just over 16 per cent of votes counted, Conservative GLA candidate Matthew Laban has a significant lead on closest rival Joanne McCartney for Labour.

In the 2004 elections, Ms McCartney won the seat by a margin of just one per cent.

Liberal Democrat Monica White has also secured a considerable number of votes.

There is a similar picture emerging in the mayoral race.

Enfield and Haringey voters have put Boris Johnson in the lead, with incumbent mayor Ken Livingstone not far behind him.

Liberal Democrat Brian Paddick is in third place, closely followed by Green candidate Sian Berry.

Results for the London-wide assembly also have the big three in the top places, with the Tories as current front-runners.

Officials have said that postal votes make up a significant number of the first votes counted.
