AN illegal immigrant who robbed a mother and toddler at gun point has been jailed for 13 years.

Victor Okumu, of Greenbank Avenue, Sudbury, stole the 38-year-old woman's wedding and engagement rings during a terrifying and violent raid on her house in Northwick Park.

He punched her to get into the house, then threatened to tie her up with rope.

He locked the three-year-old in the kitchen while he raided the woman's jewellery box and drove away with her £45,000 Mercedes.

Okumu pleaded not guilty to the charges of robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

But a jury unanimously found him guilty yesterday at Harrow Crown Court, and the 26-year-old now faces deportation when he is eventually released.

Detective Sergeant Ted Salter, of Wembley Police, said they are still unsure of Okumu's true identity and condemned his "very rare" crime.

He said: "Victor Okumu committed an appalling and terrifying robbery on the victim in front of her young child at gun point, in what she thought was the safety of her own home .

"His motivation to steal the motor car was pure financial greed."
