Eden - One million customers in first fortnight

ELECTRONIC footfall counters clocked Eden's millionth customer this morning.

High Wycombe's new £300 million shopping and leisure complex has attracted one million people in just 15 days since it opened.

Daniel Tomkinson, centre director at Eden, said: "To exceed one million visitors so soon after opening is phenomenal!

"We knew we'd been particularly busy with thousands of visitors through the doors with a real buzz and excitement on the streets of Eden. But to have over a million at this stage far exceeds all of our expectations!

"This is excellent news for both Eden and the town centre.

"It is testimony to a great development and a fantastic offer.

"New shops have opened since launch including Wagamama, Starbucks, Billabong and New Look with even more scheduled to open over the next few weeks.

"Our visitors have also enjoyed our launch celebrations with a wide range of family entertainment which is set to continue until mid April.

"We are now looking forward to continue flying the flag for High Wycombe and attracting even more visitors from across the region."

Novelty not worn off yet.The lemins take approximately 1 month to find the next shopping centre. after the third week things will start to slow.

A person got off the bus and went into the complex (one hit on the counter so far). Then they walked down the side of Tesco (bypassing the main shopping mall) and into the complex again (two hits on the counter so far) before walking through to the High Street. If they followed the same route back the total number of hits on the counter would be four. The person never bought anything in the complex and only used it as a short-cut through to the Council Offices to pay their Council Tax but they made the complex people think they had four visitors!

Perhaps it should be 250,000 visitors in 15 days rather than one million as it seems that people just walking through may possibly be counted several times!

Oh good lord, you miserable wotsit, Ivor!!

I was there tonight, from 5.45 until closing, and it boasted a decent crowd.

Just smile and be happy; there will be more shops, and the ones that we have at the moment are super.

I spent the last three years in Exeter, I have missed the shops there so much. But now Wycombe is FINALLY catching up with the 21st century, Eden is wonderful. Judging by the people I have seen on the 4 occasions I have visited (work gets in the way of shopping time, alas), 1,000,000 people isn't impossible to imagine.

Wycombe is finally doing something useful, so stop whinging and embrace the changes! ;)

As big a twit as Ivor is sometimes with his whinging and negative repetitive comments, I actuqally agree with him this time. I actually believe that they will publish fictional, unreliable, and imaginary figures, in order to try and justify the existence of EDEN. Mark my words, one year from now, go back and check to see how many of the original shops are still there. They should do a count of people that actually go into the shops instead of just walking back and forth in and out of the place that falsly increase the numbers.

Yes, a count of the people going into the shops compared with the total number of people who actually visited the complex would give an excellent picture of how popular the complex really is. Somehow I don’t think they will publish this figure as every time I have walked through some of the shops do not appear to be very busy.

I was there at lunchtime today and once again I thought the complex was quite empty compared to how busy it should be at that time of day.

how many of the people who have entered eden have actually bought anything? gaining the title of a customer? I've been through Eden twice, and on the first visit went in HMV and Waterstones buying nothing as they didn't have what i wanted.

I completely agree with Ivor's comments too, the counter system can't be accurate.

I visited Eden for the first time on Wednesday and was extremely disappointed. Having lived very close to both Lakeside and Bluewater shopping centres a few years ago I must have been spoiled by them.........but this £300m Eden centre doesn't even have a roof that covers the entire place!!! Can't believe some units are still empty, if it were a success they would have been filled from day one. Plus the entire place was very empty - OK I appreciate I had the day off work and many others were at work, however we were there at people's lunchtimes and it was still very empty. The only difference I noted was that I had to use the top floor of the Easton St carpark as all other floors were full!

you are all a lot of miserable negative people who would probably love it if Wycombe went back to the dark ages of the old Octagon. I have bnever known such a load of miseries in my life. You can't accept that perhaps, just perhaps Eden will be a success. Why do you want it to close anyway? What exactly will that bring you? Can't you just say - well I don't particularly like it but good luck to the town anyway?

If you really hate Wycombe that much then leave.
