A SERIES of events are being staged across Ealing to mark Black History Month and the bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade.

On Thursday, October 4, a new photographic exhibition showing the everyday lives of slaves called Bicentenary of the Abolition of The Slave Trade, opens at The Dominion Arts Education Centre on The Green, Southall.

Also on Thursday, Acton Library, in High Street, Acton will host a celebration of poetry, giving the public the chance to read their own works at Poetry Slam, before its host, Yemisi Blake, performs his own work Inua Ellams and Jay Bernard, two other black British poets, will also be performing.

On Saturday, October 6, Southall Library, The Green in Southall, will host a two-hour session offering people the chance to discover more about Africa and the Carribbean, between 2pm and 4pm.

Acton Library plays host to Akuba, a storyteller who deals with Africa in her work, on Tuesday, October 9, at 6pm.

A service to commemorate the abolition of the slave trade is being held at Acton Hill Methodist Church, in the Uxbridge Road, on Sunday, October 21, at 11am.
