A BRITISH Legion branch was ransacked and vandalised over the weekend, leaving veterans with a huge clean-up job.

Burglars broke into the Flackwell Heath branch in the early hours of Sunday morning, stealing a TV and smashing into two safes.

And chairman George O’Leary told the Bucks Free Press: "A fruit machine has been completely destroyed and they let the fire extinguishers off.

"Two doors were also broken and two heavy plate windows smashed. It was really severe and I was taken aback."

"It seems the way they’ve come in they might have had it in their sights for a while. We’ve not had anything happen as bad as this in my 13 years here.

"I hope this will put other clubs on their toes."

Police said the incident happened between 1.50 and 9.20am and cash was stolen from the safes and fruit machine.

Anyone with any information should contact PC James Paul via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
