Chiltern District Council agrees tax freeze

TAX rates in the Chiltern district were frozen for a second successive year last night.

Chiltern District Council agreed not to increase its share of the council tax at its meeting yesterday.

It means a Band D property - considered to be the average - will continue to pay £159.50 each year towards the authority.

Council Leader Nick Rose said: "Due to reduced government funding we have a reduction in revenue over the last two years of almost £1.2 million or 30 per cent - a not insignificant figure for a small council to manage.

"Yet despite this we have been able to avoid cuts to frontline services by focussing on reducing back office costs and streamlining processes, coupled with prudent financial management."

The council has made savings by agreeing to share services with neighbouring South Bucks District Council, with more set to be made with a joint waste and recycling contract with Wycombe District Council.

More money will be saved when energy generating solar panels are switched on at the council's head offices in Amersham.
