A SPORTS club raised more than £1,000 in memory of one of its former football players, who died from cancer last year.
Peter Stone, from Lane End, passed away last October after a long battle against cancer.
The Lane End Sports and Social Club's annual Boxing Day charity football match raised £1,199.64 for the Sue Ryder Nettlebed Hospice, where Peter was looked after at the end of his life.
Peter was a long-time player at the Lane End club and was also a former captain at Marlow FC.
After the match, there were darts and pool competitions and an auction where £45 was paid for a packet of pork scratchings.
Peter’s son Darran, who took part in the match, said: “Thanks to everyone at Sue Ryder for all that they did for my dad while he was there and thanks to everyone that took part on Boxing Day”. Afterwards Darran and his sister, Jo were presented with the Kevin Ansell trophy.
