CROWDS descended on a park which has reopened after a £1.94m makeover.

Ladywell Fields hosted a day of activities as its new look was officially unveiled by Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock.

The park now has a cleaner river with new backwaters, wetlands, boardwalks and viewing platforms.

Other improvements include water pumps, a new play area, an orchard, footpaths, cycle paths and lighting.

Tennis courts have been added along with meadow areas, riverside planting and an adventure playground.

Sir Steve said: “Ladywell Fields has been totally transformed over the last three years. It's now a wonderful place where people can go to walk, study nature, get fit or just relax.

“I'm tremendously proud of the fantastic work that's been done there and I'd encourage everyone to make the most of what's now on offer."

Work on the park was funded by a grant from the London Development Agency.
