September salads ready at Kingston organic seed company

A new Kingston-based organic produce group has launched its first monthly packet of seeds to encourage people to grow their own salads, vegetables and flowers.

Gr8seeds’ September salad mix, which organisers said could be grown by anyone indoors or outdoors, includes Japanese varieties mizuna and komatsuna, as well as claytonia, red mustard and spinach fuji, and should be ready to eat within six weeks.

Any profits from the £2.50 packets will be ploughed back into an organic fruit orchard in Knollmead, and the group said schools and charities ordering packs of seeds will receive a discount.

Anna Kwilecka, founder of gr8seeds, said: “It’s all about organic growing for local people. Unless you grow them you will never know what they taste like. Some are oriental varieties and some are English. They have different textures and tastes.”
