Public consultation on council's stadium plans

A PUBLIC consultation on controversial plans for a new stadium for Wycombe Wanderers and London Wasps will start this month, subject to approval.

Wycombe District Council will hold a public consultation on planning options for a new stadium and community sports facilities from Friday, September 17 until Friday, October 29, subject to councillors' approval at Monday night's Cabinet meeting.

The authority has attracted controversy over plans to spend up to £750,000 on the project to replace Adams Park with a 17,500 to 20,000 seater stadium.

An option to have further facilities include synthetic pitches, indoor football and rugby pitches, a hotel, conference centre and training facilities has also been mooted.

A further option to add a ‘sports village’ featuring badminton and squash courts, a cricket pitch, track and field facilities and a sports centre have also be announced.

19 sites have been named which ‘fit the assumptions’ needed for the development.

These include Wycombe Air Park, Cressex Island, the former Compair site in High Wycombe town centre, Marlow gravel pits and Terriers Farm.

A series of public events will be held on the plans during the proposed consultation period:

· Saturday, September 25, 10am-4pm, High Wycombe Library.

· Tuesday, October 5, 5-8pm, Court Garden Leisure Complex, Marlow.

· Thursday, October 14, 5-8pm, Risborough Information Centre, Princes Risborough.

While further 'discussion forums' will be held on the following dates:

· Thursday, September 30, 7-9pm, The King’s Centre, Desborough Road, High Wycombe.

· Tuesday, October 12, 7-9pm, The Town Hall, Queen Victoria Road, High Wycombe.

Wycombe does not need a new stadium. The whole scheme has come to denote everything that is wrong with our town.
~
Let's have a local referendum on the issue so the public really have a say rather than a “consultation”.

What is the point? Everyone knows the Conservatives have already decided it is going to be at Booker. This is just another sham 'consultation' which surprise surprise will rule out the other sites and we will be left with the Booker one.
More money wasted, no wonder the Conservatives put Council Tax up to pay for this fiasco.

Have to agree WDC consultation are pointless!!
Clarke, Green and Tory cronies are well known in Wycombe for not listening to or acting on the results of consultations!!

Clarke and Green just do what they want and support Tory pet projects!!

I just hope that the BFP will not use their new toy, the on-line poll, to try and gauge public opinion. They are so easy to "fix" and mean absolutely nothing.
~
Once again I ask for the BFP to investigate the links between local councilors and the main beneficiary of the new stadium, the multi-millionaire businessman, Steve Hayes.
~
The fact that Mr Hayes has given presents to some of these councilors (as reported in the BFP) should not be forgotten.
~
If, as I suspect, the whole thing will be given the go-ahead I urge the BFP to investigate any links between any contractor given the work and both Mr Hayes and local councilors and council employees.
~
Unfortunately the BFP has shown in the past that they are not prepared to do this. Maybe they firmly believe that the new stadium and waste of public money is a good thing, or maybe there are other reasons why the management of the BFP have decided to hang back and ignore the possibility or corruption.

Actually i agree with Ivor, i think WDC residents should be given the chance to have a local referendum on this, its our money at stake here, so we should be given the chance to say what happens with it.

The current sports centre is accessed via a dual carriageway. If we add this traffic to 16000 attendees to a football/rugby match and those making their weekend pilgrimage to High Heaven and those wishing to go gliding, then the localresidents are in for an interesting time when Booker, the favourite, comes about.
