WORK to improve the northbound carriageway of the M40 between Loudwater and Handy Cross is due to start on Monday.
The scheme, which is expected to take 12 weeks to complete, will see the carriageway resurfaced, bridges waterproofed and road studs installed to improve safety, says the Highways Agency.
The hard shoulder of the motorway between junctions three and four will be closed for two weeks from tomorrow and some overnight closures are also expected.
A 24 hour contraflow and 50mph speed limit will be in place from Saturday, September 18 until the completion of the upgrade. A temporary CCTV system will also be installed.

But how long are they really for? One sign says 16 weeks, the next says 14 weeks and the article says 12!
