CHILTERN'S top police officer has said arrests could soon be made after a spate of racist vandalism in Chalfont St Peter.
Chief Inspector Ian Hunter said patrols had been stepped up in the village as officers were taking the incidents “very seriously”.
A children's play area on Gold Hill Common and the Community Centre were among the places to be tagged with Nazi swastikas and National Front logos.
Postcodes have also been sprayed on various landmarks in the village, which Chief Insp Hunter was a way for troublemakers to “mark out their territory”.
He said: “That gives us an indication of what and who we were dealing with.
“The investigation is progressing. We have put a lot of extra patrols in the area and there is work going on to advise youngsters this is how serious we treat these types of incidents.
“The neighbourhood team are actively involved in the investigation.”
Chief Insp Hunter added: “We do intend to make arrests where there are grounds to do so.”
He said the graffiti was probably sprayed by people looking to cause trouble, rather than by someone with a racist agenda.
All of the graffiti has been cleared away since being reported to Thames Valley Police.
Anyone with information that can help the investigation can contact police on 08458 505 505 or the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
