Girl, 12, in serious condition after accident in Beaconsfield

A 12-year-old girl is in serious but stable condition after being an accident involving a car in Beaconsfield town centre this morning.

The Beaconsfield School pupil was airlifted to Wexham Park Hospital, Slough with serious injuries at about 10am.

Police said: "Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening."

She was hit by a gold Land Rover Freelander at about 9am in Station Road, where an air ambulance landed around 15 minutes later.

The road was closed but has now re-opened.

Eyewitness Stacey Winterton, 18, of Candlemas Mead, Beaconsfield said: "I just saw the girl bolt foward. She had an orange Sainsbury's bag and it went flying.

Miss Winterton, a stylist at Emile De Londres on Station Road, said: "She was just screaming, I have never heard a scream like that before.

"I froze and ran over to her."

"I was shocked because she was the same age as my sister."

The driver was spoken to by police at the scene. Nobody has been arrested.

She said the driver, a woman, was slapped by another woman, a pedestrian, after the collision.

Acting headteacher Nigel Dudding said the girl was a year seven pupil.

He said: "We are concerned about it and our thoughts are with her and the family.

"We hope she makes a speedy recovery."

Poor girl. But not much info here, did the girl step out into the traffic, was she on the crossing ? was it a red light ? etc etc. I dont think anyone will be able to comment on whos fault and point the finger until this article has more info, as I know most readers on here will always point the finger at the driver !! Lets all remind ourselves that predestrians are not always cleaver either.

sounds rather violent with a lot of slapping going on, why would you do that? its not going to help the girl that got knocked over

"Andy40" says she should have been in school. Why? Maybe she was on her way after going to the doctors.

Anyway, shouldn't you have been doing some work instead of surfing the internet?

Hope this poor girl makes a rapid recovery. She is in my thoughts, I have a daughter the same age and my 14 year old son was hit by a car whilst riding his bike almost a fortnight ago. Thankfully he wasn't badly hurt but at the time I was hysterical so I know how the family feel. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family. Get Well soon x x

I think, from the sounds of things, the driver wasnt slapped in an act of aggression - most likely because she was hysterical after hitting a young girl.

I hope she gets better soon x

I saw the accident and was the 1st to call the ambulance. The poor girl was in a bad way. The woman who slapped the driver was completely out of order and didn't do it to calm the driver down, she was just being a headcase, she said to her "look what you've done you idiot, she'll be in a wheelchair for 13 weeks now!" she was not helping the situation at all. It all happend so quickly I cannot say it the lights were red or green, or indeed whether the girl walked into the road or the car failed to stop, I just really hope she gets better soon.
