Holidays to be won in Mum of the Year contest

FAMILY holidays to France are up for grabs as News Shopper launches a new award to recognise the achievements of role-model mothers.

Our parent company Newsquest is searching for the country’s Mum of the Year.

The award will celebrate the hard work of mums who juggle many commitments and still find time to help others.

Created in partnership with parenting website Netmums and siblu holidays, the award will help to highlight many of the extra activities undertaken by mums to support their local communities.

You can nominate yourself or someone you know to be Mum of the Year.

A panel of judges will review every entry and choose 12 regional winners after nominations close on December 12.

Mum of the Year competition

Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham come under the Greater London region, while Dartford and Gravesend fall into the South East category.

Regional winners will receive a family holiday to France with siblu holidays, to be taken at a choice of outstanding holiday parcs in 2009.

They will also go forward to a vote early next year to find the nation’s top mum.

The overall winner will earn the title of Mum of the Year and win a two-week holiday.

Siobhan Freegard, who co-founded Netmums while raising her own family, said: "In many ways, the work mums do in our communities is the foundation of our whole society. But because it isn't seen as having a commercial value, our effort is often left unrecognised by the real world.

"The idea for Mum of the Year was born from frustration at the celebrity version of this award, which rewards style over substance. If you know a mum who is a real role model and who inspires those around them, we want to hear from you."
