LEYTON: Memorial match raises money for charity
LEYTON FC won a thrilling memorial football match which has raised £550 so far for children's hospice Haven House.
The game was organised by Ian and Chris Day whose son Paul died in a car crash in Sewardstone Road, Chingford in May 2003.
The Lillywhites, as Leyton are known, beat a Paul Day XI on penalties after they drew 3-3 at the E10 Stadium off Lea Bridge Road on Sunday.
Paul's mother Chris said: "It was a wonderful day and the football match was a thriller. Plenty of Paul's friends were there and people came as far as Ely, Southend and Brentwood.
"We held a raffle and gave both teams trophies. I'm sure Haven House will be delighted with what we have raised."
Paul's father Ian, of Billet Road, Walthamstow, said his 28-year-old son was a passenger in a car which hit a tree at the junction between Sewardstone Road and Daws Hill.
"He is hugely missed," he added.
