LEYTON: Police followed 'proper procedure' before death crash
PROPER procedures were followed during a police chase which led to the death of a Leyton woman.
Raquel Williams, 31, of Lea Bridge Road, was killed when her Vauxhall Corsa was in collision with a Mercedes being pursued by officers in Bethnal Green Road, Shoreditch.
The police car's 'black box' recorder has revealed officers called off the chase on March 30 moments before the collision.
The data corroborated officers' version of events and evidence gathered from witnesses and CCTV.
A man and a 19-month-old baby girl who were also in the Corsa suffered serious injuries.
The incident was automatically referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
The Mercedes failed to stop at the scene of the crash.
The driver, Jake Collis, 22, from Cheshunt, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Deborah Glass, IPCC Commissioner for north-east London, said: "Our investigations have looked into the actions of the police vehicle prior to the collision and concluded that procedures were properly followed.
"Any further investigation is now a matter for the Metropolitan Police Service."
