Private emergency health unit open
A NEW medical unit providing 24-hour private emergency healthcare on a pay-as-you-go basis has opened in Harrow.
The unit, believed to be the first of its kind in the country, is based at the Clementine Churchill Hospital, in Sudbury Hill, run by private healthcare company BMI.
At a cost of £47 for an initial consultation, the unit provides emergency treatment to patients who are free to turn up without an appointment.
With estimated waiting times of 15 minutes, treatment is available for adults and children over three, who have suffered accidents or have contracted illnesses.
Although other similar services exist in the private sector, it is thought this is the first to operate all day, every day.
Treatments available include those for fractures and dislocations, sprains and strains, chest pains, respiratory conditions, infections, cuts and grazes, and other general conditions that need urgent care.
However residents in a critical condition are not catered for and must still go to an NHS accident and emergency unit.
For more information about the emergency care centre, call 0208 872 3999.
