A MOTORCYCLIST from Harlow has died after a collision on the A414 in Chelmsford.

David Westall, 26, of Park Mead, died after his black Yamaha motorbike was involved in a collision with a red Honda Jazz shortly before 3:30pm yesterday (April 15).

The accident took place on a busy stretch of the road, close to the entrance of Hylands Park.

An eyewitness told the Citizen that a policeman and other motorists attempted to help the injured man.

The eyewitness was told the victim had suffered a heart attack immediately after the collision.

He said: "The policeman gave him heart massage seconds after the accident. Another motorist gave mouth to mouth resuscitation before the paramedics and air ambulance arrived."

The critically injured man was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital, in Harlow, where he died shortly after arrival.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "The collision had caused the motorcyclist to come off of the bike. He had suffered multiple injuries, and passers-by who had stopped at the scene were carrying out life-saving techniques on him.

"The rider was flown to Princess Alexandra Hospital, but sadly, despite the best efforts of those who had tried to save his life, he died shortly afterwards."

She added: "Clearly this was a very traumatic incident for all of those involved, and our thoughts are with the family."

The driver of the Honda Jazz, an 80-year-old woman, was also treated for minor injuries in hospital.

A post mortem on Mr Westall is expected to take place later this week.

Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to call Chelmsford Road Policing Unit on 01245 240625.
