Man in serious condition after being hit by train
A man is in intensive care after being hit by a train at Leatherhead station yesterday.
The middle-aged man was struck by the train, the Dorking to London Victoria service, at about 3.15pm.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said the train was due to stop at the station and approached the platform at 20 miles per hour. He said the driver saw the man on the edge of the platform climb down onto the tracks.
He sounded his horn and tried to brake but could not stop in time.
The train hit the man and he was trapped under its first carriage. He was treated at the scene and taken by air ambulance to King's College Hospital.
His severe injuries included head injuries, a broken right leg, a broken arm, a fractured pelvis and internal injuries.
He underwent surgery overnight and remains in intensive care.
