Cyclist pedals through the UK for charity
 |
| Rachel Bennett is hoping to raise over £2,500 for ME Research |
An accountant from Epsom is counting on people's support when she starts a 1,000 mile bike ride across Britain next Tuesday, aiming to cover 90 miles a day.
Rachel Bennett, 30 from Farriers Road, wants to complete the cycle ride from Land's End to John O'Groats, the furthest possible distance in the British Isles, in 12 days.
She will pedal from Land's End on the south-west tip of England, through Cornwall, over Dartmoor and north along the Welsh border, crossing the Lake District into Scotland, via lochs and the highlands to the north coast and then finally John O'Groats.
The keen cyclist is taking part in the challenge to raise money for charity ME Research because her husband's brother has the condition. She is hoping to make about £2,500 for the charity and has received over £1,500 in donations so far.
"I feel relatively prepared because I've been doing 70 miles a day at the weekends but it's difficult to know how I will cope because I've never cycled that far for that many miles before," said Rachel, who cycles to work. "My husband isn't doing it with me but he's flying up to Scotland to meet me at the end."
