EPPING: M&S to take over Co-op
    Exclusive By David Jackman

MARKS and Spencer has today announced plans to open a Simply Food store in Epping.

The announcement follows the acquisition of the Co-operative store in the High Street.

M&S will take over the 12,000sq.ft unit from The Co-operative when all 25 employees currently working at the store will transfer to M&S employment.

During the refit, all employees will undertake full training at the M&S Simply Food store in Loughton High Road.

Marks and Spencer regional manager Simon Blair said: "We're delighted to be opening a store in Epping, which we are confident local shoppers will welcome with open arms.

"Not only will it allow us to offer customers a fantastic choice of quality M&S products, it will also create a substantial number of new jobs for the area."

The new Simply Food store will offer a modern food hall with contemporary interior design.

The store will stock a wide range of quality food products including ready meals, fresh produce, sandwiches, salads, snacks and a comprehensive selection of wine and champagne.

Other highlights include a bakery offering a selection of treats in the form of pastries, cakes and crusty breads, baked in-store each day.

Along with the wide assortment of food and drink, the store will offer cards, stationery, toiletries and gifts.

I think that having a Marks & Spencer's in Epping will boost the area. The Co-Op is a run-down, empty shelved, badly staffed shop with no improvements made since it opened. Roll on M & S!!!

I believe that M&S in the High Street will give Epping a much needed boost. Unfortunately as it stands the Co-op is a waste of a very large space which could be much better utilised by M&S.

We moved to Epping in 2007 and stongly support local independent businesses (from Wanstead, where we took the same stance for 10 years). Notwithstanding this, we are delighted that M&S is moving into Epping; it will be a vast improvement on the run-down Co-op and will hopefully boost the area without negatively impacting small businesses. M&S bring it on!

Well you won't find many independent shops here in Epping, and sadly the ones that are around won't be for much longer.

You are aware that Epping's housing stock is going to rise by around 20% due to mass development? Really bad time to move to Epping, you'll only get to see the last days of a once great town.
