EPPING FOREST: Election results "show confidence" in Tories

EPPING Forest Conservative MP Eleanor Laing said the results showed the confidence that electors now have for the controlling Conservative group.

She said: "Things have changed around here since the Conservatives took control and I'm absolutely delighted to see that we have gained more seats today and that shows that people want a Conservative council to pursue the policies that they are pursuing.

"Conservative councillors work very hard to get our council tax down and our services at a good level, and that's clearly what matters most to people."

Among those safely back in the council chamber are former council chairman Brian Sandler (Chigwell Row), Liberal Democrat group leader Jon Whitehouse (Epping Hemnall), council leader Di Collins (Passingford) and deputy leader Chris Whitbread (Epping Lindsey and Thornwood Common), former Conservative group leader Maggie McEwen (High Ongar, Willingale and The Rodings), current chairman Caroline Pond Loughton St Johns) and current vice-chairman John Knapman (Chigwell Village).

Turnouts ranged from 24 per cent in Waltham Abbey South West to 51 per cent in Theydon Bois.
