Hundreds attend funeral of tragic television presenter
 |
| Mark Speight |
HUNDREDS of people attended the funeral of tragic television presenter Mark Speight today.
The 42-year-old was found hanged at Paddington station on April 13 having being reported missing almost a week previously after leaving the home where he had been living with family in Norfolk Road, Enfield.
The former presenter of BBC children's programme SMart was devastated following the death of his fiancee and former co-presenter Natasha Collins on January 3.
Family and friends gathered at the service in Wolverhampton, where Mr Speight was brought up and educated, before attending a private cremation in the city.
Among the well-known faces at the service at St Michael and All Angels' Church, in Tettenhall, were Mr Speight's former SMart co-presenter Kirsten O'Brien and Timmy Mallett.
Mr Speight's father Oliver paid tribute to his much-loved son and thanked the "7,000 children that emailed the BBC and who miss you today", adding "Sleep well in eternity, you have earned your rest".
A full inquest into Mr Speight's death will open next month, although police have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances.
Mr Speight's fiancee was found in the bath of the flat that the pair shared in St John's Wood with massive burns to her body from the boiling water and had suffered a drugs overdose after taking sleeping pills, cocaine and alcohol.
He was initially arrested as part of police enquiries on suspicion of murder and supplying Class A drugs, but it was later announced that no action would be taken.
