Officers investigating the murder of Wahab Zaaki in Walthamstow set up mobile police station

POLICE are setting up a mobile station to appeal for information on the anniversary of a teenager's murder.

Officers investigating the murder of 18-year-old Wahab Zaaki in Walthamstow are conducting anniversary appeals a year after his death, on March 13, last year.

Detectives will set up a mobile police station in Shernhall Street, Walthamstow, from 1pm on Friday (March 12) until 1am on Saturday (March 13) and will be handing out leaflets and appealing for information.

Mr Zaaki, of Old Church Road, Chingford, was fatally in the chest following a fight between a large group of youths in Atlee Terrace, Prospect Hill.

DCI Phil Rickells, leading the murder investigation, said: “Despite a number of ongoing lines of inquiry, one year on from this murder we continue to appeal for information and witnesses to establish the circumstances which led to a young man losing his life.

"I absolutely believe there are people in the Walthamstow area who know who is responsible but have not yet come forward.

"I would appeal directly to those individuals to get in touch with police and help us solve this case and bring some justice for Wahab’s family.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 8345 1570 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Sad to think that on anniversary another young child murdered up the road

There are too many of these sad anniversaries and unsolved murders in the Walthamstow area. They are all very different in their circumstances, no doubt, but all involve great pain and raise questions about who has carried out these deeds and apparently got away with it. Maybe they still live among us.

I really do sympathise with Wahab’s family not knowing properly about why he died and who is not talking about what they know.

We are also waiting for the police to catch the killers of Michelle Samaraweera and Melita Jo. Going back a few more years, there is the killing of Julie Dorsett which has also not been resolved. I expect there are other cases also where the victim's relatives have never had the justice they deserve and cannot yet find peace and closure.

Very true, well commented. So we have murderes on the loose still and just useless plastic cops going around handing out stickers and leaflets warning people how dangerous the area is. they finish at 5pm so best everyone have a self imposed curfew after that?
