JACK Dromey has been touted as a possible candidate for a safe Labour seat in the midlands, which would end any prospect of his standing in Leyton & Wanstead.
Mr Dromey, Labour national party treasurer and husband of deputy leader Harriet Harman, may be parachuted into the Erdington seat, in Birmingham, following the decision of culture minister Sion Simon not to stand for re-election.
Mr Dromey had been linked with the candidacy for Leyton & Wanstead, following the decision by Harry Cohen not to re-stand following his role in the expenses scandal.
But local activists opposed the move.
Concern is mounting among local members that a candidate has still not be selected just three months before an election is likely to take place.
