LEYTON/WANSTEAD: Dromey linked with another Labour safe seat

JACK Dromey has been touted as a possible candidate for a safe Labour seat in the midlands, which would end any prospect of his standing in Leyton & Wanstead.

Mr Dromey, Labour national party treasurer and husband of deputy leader Harriet Harman, may be parachuted into the Erdington seat, in Birmingham, following the decision of culture minister Sion Simon not to stand for re-election.

Mr Dromey had been linked with the candidacy for Leyton & Wanstead, following the decision by Harry Cohen not to re-stand following his role in the expenses scandal.

But local activists opposed the move.

Concern is mounting among local members that a candidate has still not be selected just three months before an election is likely to take place.

With all this parachuting going on Jack Dromey will soon qualify as an honorary member of the Red Devils!

So Dromey drops his interest in Leyton because a safer seat becomes available.

Never mind that he has no real connection to the people or area for either seat.

No doubt the ruling officials are preparing to screw over the local actvists who gave years of selfless service to the Labour Party in Erdington just as they would have done here.

They won't get a fair chance to stand for election themselves because the party's deputy leader wants the seat for her husband.

As recently seen with local Councillor selections the Labour Party's internal democracy only exists for as long as they chose the right candidates. Other wise the officials step in to impose the candidates they want.

Dromey is perfectly happy to benefit from this, not because he needs the job or the money, but just because he can.

Anyone who is still an activist in this party can hardly complain at the way they are treated. There have been ample signs for years about how undemocratic, nasty, unprincipled and corrupted the leadership of this party have turned out to be.

If they decide to remain part of the charade calling itself the Labour Party which is yet again planning to perpetrate itself on the British people at the next election, then I have little sympathy for any embarrassment or disappointments they may feel at their leadership's behaviour or at the well deserved kicking they will probably get once what is left of the party finally faces an electoral verdict on its dire performance.
