EPPING/ONGAR: Apprentices help out on railway line

A TEAM of apprentices has been learning how to build the railways of the future by helping repair one of the great railways of the past.
12 apprentices from Manchester based Vital Rail helped with maintenance work on the Epping-Ongar Railway Line as part of their training as rail engineers.
Epping-Ongar Railway Line general manager Simon Hanney said: “It is an excellent environment for them to learn in. They say they have really enjoyed it because it is a real life experience with engines running past them as they work.
“It is a mutually fruitful partnership we have formed with Vital Rail and we are preparing to take in a new group of apprentices later in the year.”
The railway line, which closed over 20 years ago, is set to reopen later this year.
