EPPING FOREST: Littler louts are 'dirty pigs' says council

EPPING Forest District Council has teamed up with the Keep Britain Tidy group for a new anti-littering campaign which accuses its perpetrators of being "dirty pigs".

The campaign, specifically designed to tackle fast food rubbish, features posters which will go up on billboards, bus shelters, phone boxes and on a van which will travel around the district.

A spokesman for the council said: "Fast food and its packaging makes up a quarter of all litter on the streets. In addition to attracting pests and wild animals, neighbourhoods blighted by litter can often act as a magnet to more serious crimes.

"Keep Britain Tidy has previously used the Dirty Pig campaign which aims to tackle the problem of wrappers, cartons and uneaten food dropped on the ground."

The council's portfolio holder for the environment, Cllr Mary Sartin, said: “Fast food litter is a problem for many communities and it can be a real eyesore that can adversely affect the community’s perceptions of their neighbourhood."
