THEY are regularly reviled for their poor quality, but one motorway service station has blown away all the competition with the quality of its toilets.
Birchanger Green’s, Welcome Break site proved to be just that when it achieved the coveted five star rating at the Loo of the Year Awards 2008.
Service station site director Simon Bullworthy said: “I am delighted with the award. The staff here work hard to ensure that the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that their efforts have been rewarded.
“Our toilets are open to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so it really does take a team effort to maintain such high standards at all times.”
The toilets were judged against numerous criteria including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.
Loo of the Year Awards director Mike Bone said: “The toilets at Birchanger Green are superb and the site richly deserves its five-star rating.”
