POSTERS have been distributed to local shops in a bid to reduce the number of Halloween incidents this year.
The posters state that eggs and flour will not be sold to shoppers unless it is part of a larger grocery order.
Parents are being urged to keep an eye on their egg and flour supplies to stop them being misused by their children.
Chief Superintendent Chris Miller, head of community safety and crime reduction with Hertfordshire Constabulary, said: “Community patrols during the Halloween period woll be stepped up and troublemakers will be dealt with robustly.
“If anyone is concerned about ‘trick or treating’, or they feel intimidated by Halloween activity, they should contact the police while it is still going on, if possible.”
He added: “Anyone planning to go out trick or treating should act sensibly and not cause upset to other members of the community, especially the elderly and vulnerable.
“It is also equally important that trick or treaters stay safe themselves.”
