Pensioner confronted by masked intruders

TWO men and woman wearing pink woollen masks confronted a 76-year-old woman in her own home in the early hours.

The trio forced their way into the woman’s house in Gilston, near High Wych, shortly after 1.30am on Tuesday, October 21.

They fled with a Louis Vuitton shoulder bag, a Radley purse, a undisclosed sum of cash, and a drawer containing various paperwork.

A police spokeswoman said there was an altercation between the woman and the gang who also went upstairs in the property, the exact location of which is not being revealed.

One of the male raiders was aged 30 to 40, white, stocky, and about 6ft tall. The other was about 5ft 6ins tall and of medium build.

The woman was slim, about 5ft 2ins tall.

All three were wearing dark clothing and white footwear.

They escaped in a dark-coloured 4x4 vehicle that had a registration number beginning with the letter R. The vehicle had a spare wheel attached to the rear door with ‘Cuffley’ written on the wheel cover.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Tim Johnson said: “Although crimes of this severity are rare in Hertfordshire, this incident was extremely distressing for the victim, who was shocked, though fortunately not injured.

“We are appealing to people to may have information regarding this crime, or who witnessed anyone acting suspiciously in the area before or after the event took place, to come forward.

“Someone must know who these criminals are.”
