Oyster extended to train services

PASSENGERS will be able to use Oyster cards at main line stations in the borough from September.

First Great Western stations in Hillingdon will be introducing the pay as you go system, after the company agreed a deal with Transport for London (TfL).

Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, today announced the agreement, which will see Oyster readers installed at Ealing Broadway, Greenford, Hanwell, South Greenford, Southall, West Ealing.

Mr Johnson, said: "This is excellent news for thousands of First Great Western passengers and takes us a step closer to making Oyster the only ticket you'll need to travel in London.

"TfL is investing £40m in new Oyster equipment."

It's about time. There's been extraordinary unfairness in permitting weekly travel card holders to use National Rail services between Ealing Broadway and Paddington whilst pay-as-you-go Oyster Card users have been unable to utilise this line.

Will Oyster readers be installed at Paddington station? This article failed to mention.. or is TFL only doing this deal so that Oyster pay-as-you-go users will be penalised £4 every time they fail to check out at Paddington station?

Don't all applaud BoJo at once. FGW have repeatedly told me that this facility was due to begin in 2009 anyway - still at least its 3 months early

Oyster readers have been installed at Paddington - for platforms 11 upwards
