Budding artisans battle for title
Students gathered in Acton to show off their skills.
Students gathered in Acton to show off their skills.

STUDENTS from across the capital descended on an Acton college yesterday, all bidding to become London's Building Idol.

The men and women aged from 17 to 21 were taking part in a competition called Skillsbuild to find the most talented young bricklayer, plasterer, decorator and carpenter in the capital.

Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College hosted the London regional heat of the competition at its Acton campus, with the winners going through to take on the best of the national talent in Leeds in October.

Whoever wins the national title will be entered into the WorldSkills competition, an international event which takes place every two years. The next contest is being hosted in Calgary, Canada, next year.

Three of the four winners in the competition were students of Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College.
