Youngsters urged to stay out of lakes

| Lakes hold hidden dangers |
YOUNGSTERS are being urged to stay out of lakes during the coming summer months.
Dartford Council is reminding people that lakes can be dangerously cold even in the warmest weather. Many of the lakes, made from former quarries, remain freezing cold because they are so deep.
The council is also stressing that open water can hide other dangers such as underwater currents, rubbish and reeds.
Portfolio holder for open spaces, Councillor Patsy Thurlow, said: "We're very lucky to have a number of lakes in our borough that are lovely to look at and take a walk around.
"But it's important that residents remember that they can be particularly dangerous to swim in and shouldn't be seen as an opportunity to cool off as they are not supervised and it's not easy to tell how cold or deep they are."
