CHINGFORD: Beckham set to win 100th cap

CHINGFORD'S number one son David Beckham looks set to pass another footballing landmark, writes James Randall.

The ex-Ridgeway Rovers man and Chingford School pupil appears set to earn his 100th cap for England next week, after being included in Fabio Capello's squad today.

Before moving on to megastardom with Manchester United and Real Madrid, Beckham spent hours honing the skills that would make him one of the biggest stars in world football at Chase Lane Park in Chingford with his dad Ted.

Despite spending much of January training with Arsenal during the MLS close season, Beckham was ommited from new boss Capello's first squad due to poor fitness.

At the time it appeared he might finish up with 99 international caps, although after a string of pre-season games for LA Galaxy, it appears the Leytonestone born player will reach his historic landmark after all.

Capello told a press conference today: "I always said that when David was fit he could be in the squad, I have had good reports on him from Franco(Baldini), who watched him on Saturday night, and also from his club."

"I know a lot about David Beckham and what he can offer the team," he added.

If the 32-year does gain his 100th cap in Paris, he will become a member of a select few who have reached the milestone.

Peter Shilton, Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton and Billy Wright are the only men to pull on an England shirt more than a hundred times.

I'm beginning to think that Mr Khalid is this Blog's equivant of Harry Enfield's Stavros.

Read a few more of his posts to check what I mean.

Mr Khalid has one thing in common with Beckham. Both can bore at international level.

He should be wearing an Easter Bonnet as it is Easter. I think he ghas lost his touch now and is quite poor at kicking the ball.

David Beckham is a great player. It's unfortunate that he gets so many negative comments from people who have so much trouble expressing their opinions. Gerry Kirk.
