CHIGWELL: Four held in latest crime operation

FOUR people were arrested and nine cars seized in Essex Police's latest crackdown on crime in the Epping Forest district.

Operation Clorine, which targeted Chigwell, saw officers carry out high visibility patrols backed up with Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems.

Thirty fixed penalty tickets for various offences were issued, eight stop checks were completed, and two vehicle defect rectification schemes were handed out.

Of the four people arrested one was wanted for actual bodily harm in the Metropolitan Police area, one was held for possessing offensive weapons and taking a motor vehicle without consent while one was a suspected drink-driver, and one was detained for driving while disqualified.

The operation was specifically targeted at people from outside the district coming into the area to commit crimes, including burglaries, and followed on from Operation Dalmation, in March, which saw five people arrested in Buckhurst Hill and Chigwell.

Inspector Simon Werrett said: "Coming home to find you have been burgled after a long day at work is an extremely upsetting experience. We will continue these no nonsense operations to target individuals who come across our borders to commit crime with the full intention of disrupting their day."

This is what the police should be doing all the time in all locations! Not just now and then in one area as a special "operation". No wonder crime is rising all the time.

Well when it comes to thieves and cons, the BBC comedy "Birds of a Feather" wasn't placed in Chigwell just by chance was it?
