CHIGWELL: Boy, 15, arrested over £11,000 security guard robbery

A TEENAGED boy has been arrested in connection with a cash box robbery at the Shell service station, in Manor Road, Chigwell.

Police are still seeking two men in connection with the raid.

A police spokesman said three men approached the guard who was transferring a cash box at the garage at 10.30am on Saturday. There was a brief struggle before the suspects fled with the cash box in a Ford Ka car. No weapons were used and the security guard - a man in his 50s from Hornchurch - was not injured.

Later in the morning Metropolitan Police officers spotted a car fitting the description in the Woolwich area of London and attempted to stop it. The occupants ran off.

A 15-year-old boy, from Barking, was later arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been released on police bail until tomorrow (Tuesday).

The cash box containing about £11,000 has been recovered.

Police are still hunting two men described as black, in their late teens to early 20s, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins tall, slim, and with short Afro hair.

Anyone with any information should ring Loughton CID on 01279 625530, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
