EPPING FOREST: Seven arrested during number plate crackdown
SEVEN people were arrested, 18 vehicles seized and 21 fixed penalty notices issued when police carried out an operation involving number plate checks in the Loughton, Chigwell and Buckhurst Hill area.
Over six days the Automatic Number Plate Recognition team and local police burglary team used the hi-tech system to check 27,000 number plates.
Two people were arrested for disorderly conduct, one for driving while disqualified, one on an outstanding warrant and two others arrested for theft and criminal damage.
One person stopped was later arrested and charged with two burglaries. Four drug offences were also detected during the crackdown.
Epping Forest crime reduction officer Tony Ellis said: "This was a particularly productive operation and no doubt we will be mounting similar operations throughout the district in the future."
