Three rescued from warehouse fire
Firefighters tackle the fire in Glebe Way
Firefighters tackle the fire in Glebe Way

THREE people had to be rescued from a flat when flames spread from a warehouse fire in West Wickham.

Six fire engines and 30 firefighters were needed to tackle the fire which started in a furniture warehouse in Glebe Way at 4.10pm yesterday.

Three people living in a flat above the warehouse had to be led to safety by firefighters.

One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

A semi-detached house next door to the warehouse was also damaged by the fire after flames spread to the ground floor.

Fire destroyed 20 per cent of the ground floor of the warehouse and ten percent of the neighbouring house.

Firefighters from Beckenham, Bromley, Forest Hill and Addington took one and a half hours to bring the flames under control.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

u need to get ur facts right. half this stuff is rubbish.
The fire had nearly been put out by half four and the fire started on the ground floor and spread upwards. 10percent damage was done to 2 houses not 1 like you reported.

I am interested to read your comments ?
You say the fire was nearly out by 4.30 - so how much longer did it take to put out the rest of the fire? If you read the story it says they fire started in the furniture warehouse - on the ground floor - and spread from there - so I think we agree on that. As for the 10 per cent damage - how could you know that unless you were part of the fire investigation team - in which case why didn't you provide accurate details to the LFB press office. But feel free to slag off stories at random if it helps.

At the end of the day whether the fact are slighty out does not matter. All the matters is that the fire is out and no one was baly hurt.

Well done to the fire crews involved.

Rich, I don't think the facts are "a bit out" - there was nothing in Mr ?'s comment that would suggest they were. At least nothing that stands up to scrutiny.

sorry to tell you this but your facts are incorrect. 2 of the houses in glebe way were damaged aswell as the auction house. I know this because i saw the entire thing happen. you were probably one of the photographers standing at the road side not helping the situation. So leave mr ? alone.

jon cheetham u live nowhere near this so id like to know how you can comment on this. the fire started outside the auction house and spread to inside after damaging two other houses. the firefighters were helpful to the older people and did there job very well but noone spoke to my m8 to check he was alrite whos house was hit. this is not slagging of random stories as i weas in one of the houses wen the fire started.

So there were two houses damaged rather than one. Does that included the flats upstairs - or are we talking about two adjacent houses? I have to confess that I wasn't there and can only go on what I am told. One of the advantages of allowing people to comment on stories is that is helps reporters to gather information and develop stories. We cover a big area and reporters write a lot of stories in a day - it just isn't possible to be "on the spot" all the time.
