20,000 get revved up for annual bike ride
 |
| Bikers take part in a May Day ride from Locksbottom to Hastings |
AROUND 20,000 bikers followed an annual tradition of riding through Kent on May Day.
The May Day run, which began in the 1970s and starts in Locksbottom, sees riders make their way to Hastings and then back again.
Biker Paul Gambrill, of Anerley Road, Crystal Palace, said: "When I started going in the 1970s there were about 100 people who would go.
"I found out about it through word of mouth."
Mr Gambrill, 55, who is a second-hand record dealer and stained glass restoration worker, took his 12-year-old son, Dylan, this year.
Bikers rode to Hastings, visited the beach and then had something to eat before riding back.
It took Mr Gambrill more than two hours to complete the 62-mile journey to Hastings and around an hour to get back.
