Bonfire causes Radlett garden blaze
Firefighters are warning residents about the dangers of lighting bonfires after a garden fence caught alight in Radlett yesterday.
A fire crew from Borehamwood was called to the house in The Grove at around 6.30pm yesterday after a pile of burning rubbish spread to the garden fence.
Bob Williams, White Watch commander at Borehamwood fire station, said: "The occupants had been burning some rubbish and in this heat everything is tinder dry. The fire then spread and the garden fence caught alight.
"They were very lucky not to set the whole garden alight. The residents had attempted to put the fire out with a hose but we finished the job off.
"We ask people to be extra vigilant in this weather and to make sure that any fires are well away from anything else that may set alight.
"It is better not to attempt to light fires at all in this hot weather."
