Colleagues pay respects to paramedic killed in bike crash

Family, friends and colleagues have paid their respects to a paramedic from Sidcup, killed in a motorcycle accident.
More than 250 colleagues attended the funeral of Ron Pile of Canterbury Avenue, Sidcup at St Andrew's Church in Hornchurch in Essex, yesterday (6 May).
The 43-year-old paramedic died on a motorcycle training course in Priddy, Somerset on April 23.
Mr Pile joined the LAS in 1988 and worked at Romford, Tottenham, and Poplar stations before recently joining the service's motorcycle response unit.
Romford Ambulance operations manager Steve Colhoun said: "It was a very sad occasion but the only thing we could do was to give Ron the send off that he deserved, and that is what happened.
"I am very proud of all the staff who attended for making it such a special day.
"Ron was held in very high regard, and that is shown by the number of his colleagues who attended his funeral to pay their respects."

My condolences to this man's family and friends.
How nice to read of such a great tribute from the LAS and that donations in his memory will go to doing as he did in his working life - helping others. RIP

I would also like to offer my condolences to this man, i feel most paramedics should be proud of the job they do and we all should feel proud of them also, it is a great tribute for donations to go to such a good cause, helping others which iam sure this man did many times. RIP

it was a fantastic day. I know my dad would be laughing at all of us who cried that day and making some silly joke about it. A big thanks to everyone who came for his final goodbye.
