Restaurant scheme wins Young Enterprise competition
 |
| 10 students from Queen Elizabeth's School |
A group of Barnet schoolboys beat off strong
challenges to make it to the regional finals of a contest organised by the charity Young Enterprise.
The 20-strong team of Year 10 students from Queen Elizabeth's School, in Queen's Road, saw off seven other teams last Thursday in the north London area with its idea of a discount card for restaurants.
Their company, Envisage, had already beaten 288 teams to reach this stage of the
competition, held in Squires Lane, Finchley.
Envisage will now compete in an all-London final on June
19. The national finals of
the Young Enterprise competition will take place a month later in July.
The Young Enterprise charity aims to educate and inspire future generations
of business leaders and
entrepreneurs.
Judges praised the team's professional approach, preparation and enthusiasm.
Quest, also from Queen Elizabeth's, finished a close second and won the Best Display Stand award.
Quest's product, a digital board game to help companies improve their environmental sustainability, was commended for its originality.
Quest marketing director Thomas Elliott, 15, said: "My time in Young Enterprise has been a huge learning process.
"We've had to motivate, delegate, trouble-shoot, communicate efficiently and even fire people."
Shaheen Fani, north London development manager for the business and education charity Young Enterprise, said of the two teams: "They achieved a great result, presenting to a high standard and really demonstrating a fantastic understanding of business."

Having attended the event myself, I would like to take the opportunity to express how impressed I was at how much both teams had achieved and how brilliant I thought Quest's product was in particular.
I was particularly astonished at the number of t-shirts Quest had displayed on and around their stand. I sincerely hope that the boys weren't cajoled into buying so many...
