Logan only survivor in Scots squad

Former Hull and Wigan forward Scott Logan was the only survivor from the last World Cup in the 24-man Scotland squad named for this year's tournament.

The 32-year-old prop, who played all three of his country's matches in 2000, was with Sydney Roosters at the time but is now at Canberra, where the Scots play their opening match.

Logan is one of six Australian-based players, including winger Michael Robertson, who scored a hat-trick of tries in Manly's 40-0 Grand-Final win over Melbourne on Sunday.

The Scots were quick to swoop on Robertson after he failed to make the Australia squad and his addition will help offset a series of withdrawals from coach Steve McCormack's party.

"We are strengthened by the inclusion of some established NRL performers who were keen to play from the outset but who also recognised our policy of rewarding those who played in qualifying," said McCormack.

"It is disappointing that for many reasons so many were not able to put themselves forward.

"I am very happy with the make-up of the squad as we have a great degree of versatility in there which will be needed with at least three games in relatively quick succession."

The squad includes the three Henderson brothers, who were born in Torquay but qualify through their Glasgow-born father, and Paddy Coupar, who plays in Scotland's domestic league for Edinburgh Eagles.

The Scotland team, captained by Wakefield scrum-half Danny Brough, will be based in Sydney for the first four days of their World Cup campaign before going into camp in Canberra ahead of their opening game against France on Sunday, October 26.

They then play Fiji at Central Coast on Wednesday, November 5.
